She swept through South Korea like a storm, and with it, quickly made work of society as we know it. Powerful enough to fight on her own and charismatic enough to create an entire army of villains, she was able to tear through the Hero Society with ease, driving heroes to either join her or die. [break][break] Twelve years. That’s all it took for her to take control of South Korea, a hub of commerce, and extend her influence outward. Soon, the entire world was in the palm of her hand, and with it, a new era. The heroes had lost, and the people felt with absolute certainty that everything was going to change. And change it did. [break][break] The world became a lawless landscape run by criminals of all degrees. Children who showed promising powers were taken from their families at a young age and shipped to The Playground, a facility created by Dark Matter and run by her most trusted accomplices to create another generation of villains that would keep the world in her hands. [break][break] But, unbeknownst to Dark Matter, the heroes have not given up, and not all of them were killed or recruited during her initial takeover. A pocket of resistance has begun to develop underground of heroes and recruits who all have the same goal in mind: Save the children, and takedown Dark Matter, once and for all. SettingRise is set in South Korea. As this is a superhero site, technology is a little more advanced than what we have now, but it’s fairly modern other than that. Law and Order in South Korea are nonexistent, with police officers and other civil servants operating under the direct orders of Dark Matter. The state of decay of the city starts from the middle, lower-class districts and beyond. The closer to Dark Matter, the better the condition. The heroes have lost.
The villains have won.
In a twist of fate, those with the power to protect have been reduced to meager numbers, hiding underground to escape the clutches of Dark Matter, the villain that brought the world to its knees. The people live in fear as crime runs rampant, children with potential snatched from their homes the moment their abilities surface, families murdered, stores ransacked, and chaos abound.
But all hope isn't lost. A small organization of heroes have slowly begun to form with the intention of doing two things: rescuing those children, and taking down Dark Matter and her subordinates, once and for all.
